Growing up I knew next to nothing about engineering and the different sectors, in fact the closest I got to engineering was taking textiles at GCSE.
When I started at UTC Leeds in September 2016, all that changed and I was transported in to a new world of possibilities.
I thought I would excel at one of my other subjects but it turns out engineering is exactly what I want to do.
One thing I had become interested in was design engineering; now I have never done any CAD previously but was trained in Autodesk Fusion 360 by Mr Mellor in the Engineering Design unit. When I wanted to build my own drone for my EPQ, titled “How do drones fly”. I found after my training that Autodesk Fusion 360 was so simple and easy to use that instead of buying all the components I decided to design my own parts on Autodesk fusion 360. Mr Mellor trained me to use the Ultimaker 2+ 3D printer as it is very easy to get to grips with and produces great quality parts for my Drone.
Because of all the new opportunities that I’ve found through taking A-level engineering on a whim; I am now changing my entire career path and I am looking at getting a Distinction in A-level engineering and I am hoping to take it at university.
