CREATE Education puts the community at the centre of everything we do, and our Hubs and Ambassadors are at the heart of our community.

Our Ambassadors are education and industry professionals who work in partnership with CREATE Education to spread the skills and knowledge of Additive Manufacturing to the next generation. They could be education professionals, industry experts, or teachers working directly in schools with a passion and enthusiasm for 3D Printing, 3D Scanning, and 3D Forming, like Aaron Winstanley.

We joined Aaron Winstanley, Head of Design and Technology at Bolton  Junior Boys’ School, along with his class of Year 6 boys, in a lesson using Autodesk Fusion 360 3D Design skills and to talk about their use of the Raise3D E2.

3D Design with Autodesk Fusion 360

Autodesk Fusion 360 is an advanced 3D Design package, adopted as an industry standard integrated CAD/CAM package. Using this complex piece of software with 11-year-olds shows the ambition that Aaron Winstanley has for his pupils at Bolton School.

Aaron said of Fusion 360, “We started out with Tinkercad…but I felt when it got to Year 6, the boys were ready for the next step. Fusion 360 is complicated…but breaking it up for them gives them access to all the different skills and it gives them early onset into skills and careers they potentially could go into.”

This was only their second lesson using CAD design to build the housing for an electronics project, and Aaron was able to guide them in recalling and using the tools to accurately create the dimensions needed to house their circuits and remove materials to allow for switches.

One boy commented about the jump from Autodesk Tinkercad to Autodesk Fusion 360:

“It’s harder, but you can get things more precise, and it helps us 3D print.”

CREATE Education Support: Autodesk Tinkercad and Fusion 360

At CREATE Education, we run free monthly webinars to support teachers in using Autodesk’s 3D Design packages.  Reserve your place:

We also offer the fully funded 12-hour Fusion Fundamentals course. Aimed at teachers who are just starting with Fusion 360, this course is run over a number of sessions. Get in touch to see when the next cohort of Fusion Fundamental is running:

3D Printing with the Raise3D E2

As a CREATE Education Ambassador working at a CREATE Education Hub, Aaron Winstanley has had access to loan one of our Raise3D E2 printers on a long-term loan.

Adding to his suite of 3D printers, Aaron reflected on why he thinks 3D Printing is so important to introduce as early as possible

“3D Printing is that lightbulb moment. It’s that inspiration, and it’s the magic.”

They believe it when you say you can turn [their design into a product]…they believe you to a certain extent, but until they can actually see it and when they do see it, they just light up and then…from there, getting them to sit down, and design is easy!”

The Raise3D E2 is a large-capacity 3D Printer built-in IDEX technology, allowing Aaron to whizz through class prints in no time.

IDEX (Independent Dual Extruders) technology prints with two heads simultaneously. Place it in mirror mode to produce 3D models and their inverse simultaneously or in duplicate mode, doubling production capabilities.

With Auto bed levelling, the Rasie3D E2 has improved bed adhesion and print quality. The flexible Build Plate allows you to easily remove prints from it while minimising potential print damage, allowing you to quickly return to Printing.

With a built-in HEPA Air Filter system, you can have peace of mind that this 3D Printer is safe to use in the classroom and environmentally friendly.

Aaron said of the Raise3D E2:

“The print volume is brilliant! Its allows us to print multiple projects at once, and when time is tight its perfect”
