Collis 3Design is co-founded by Dr Howard Hill. It’s first range of products is Minifig Battlefields and it is on a mission to bring back the creativity of building with minifigs and other well-know brick brands, through learning and education to enable schools during the WW1 commemorations to tell their stories in a different way.

Having achieved my doctorate in chemistry, prior to setting up Collis 3Design, for many years I worked in the Ministry of Defence as a specialist scientist including instrumentation. I inspected many materials used in equipment manufacture and tested them when problems occurred using various scientific instrumental methods. I have always been a keen model maker, making and designing items and objects for school plays and activities from Ancient Greek and Egyptian headgear to miniature towns & cities.

3D printing has opened up so many new creative education opportunities and I now concentrate as a model maker in design for 3D printing, specializing in military equipment and accessories for our minifig soldiers. Our ‘pink ladder’ story tells exactly how this technology has changed the way we do things.

Our aim now is to engage schools during the centenary of the Great War to tell their stories through visual art and animation. By engaging the children from storyboarding, to designing and making pieces, we aim to encourage schools to embrace 3D printing as a learning tool in both science and in the arts. We ultimately aim to enrich and inspire the next generation designers, engineers and filmmakers.
