Gemma Bethel

Gemma Bethel is the Chief Marketing Officer of ProMake Ltd. Promake creates new smart materials sustainably by functionalising and fabricating Graphene for Medical Diagnostic Devices. By collaborating with world-leading academic institutions and commercial organisations, Promake supports diverse industries starting with earth sustainability, healthcare, transport, aerospace, multi- sport, construction, etc.

Gemma Bethel knows first hand the power of innovation through the tools, training and use of smart materials using 3D printing and aims to empower a new generation of talented individuals especially females into the sector. She works to drive more females into the industry, afterall 80% of people involved within 3D printing in 2021 were men and just 19% were women, and this reflects a lack of female staff in 3D printing.

Gemma and her team at ProMake are also driving to nurture, educate and coach youth into the field of new smart materials and technology by working alongside UTC schools to produce a talent pipeline into design, development, manufacture of medical innovations and devices. This is achieved through an intuition where students can pursue specialist qualifications with real life experience of cross disciplinary work with Health, Engineering and Computer Science. This will include specialist courses in the use of intelligent Graphene and digital twinning. Enabling a workforce who are familiarity with smart materials and able to push innovation within a newly emerging employment sector.

Create education is a valuable and essential for encouraging a stream of new talent within the UK educational system as well as closing the gender gap with the industry, therefore Gemma Bethel is proud to be an ambassador for Create.
