Mary-lynne Sparkes

Mary graduated from Loughborough University in 2005 with a BSc in Industrial Design and
Technology. She specialises in the design and communication of ideas and has an in depth
understanding of materials, ergonomics, user interactions, user experiences and CAD CAM.

In the past Mary has worked as a Development Designer for ArtForm International, a Point of
Sale design company, taking projects from concept through to production. Moving to world-
renowned Pendennis Shipyard as a Technical Draftsperson, Mary produced technical working
drawings of the yacht interiors using AutoCAD. These drawings were firstly used to make full size
prototypes and then to construct the final luxurious yacht interiors.

Following an enjoyable and rewarding career in the Design Industry, Mary then trained as a
secondary Design and Technology Teacher. Making good use of her passion for design, Mary’s
goal is to inspire young people to explore a career in this fascinating field. During a very
successful period as a teacher of Electronics and Product Design, Mary also provided
opportunities for members of the public to have a go at 3D design and printing as part of a
community project for Cubify.

Mary took a brief break from her career as three lovely little boys arrived in quick succession,
whilst putting her skills to good use in designing and modelling the renovation and extension of a
property bought at auction. Mary maintained her passion for design and teaching by running the
Cubify project and a teaching role on a part time basis. In her current role, Mary provides
drawings for architects and structural engineers using both 2D and 3D CAD packages. Her
passion for inspiring young people remains, and she greatly enjoys visiting local schools to run
workshops on 3D printing.
