Scott Barnett

My name is Scott ‘Barney’ Barnett and I have over 31 years of experience as an aircraft engineering technician with the Royal Navy, Fleet Air Arm (FAA). I am 47yrs young, currently based at Royal Naval Air Station (RNAS) Culdrose in Cornwall, where I am Warrant Officer Aircraft Engineering Technician.

I am a fully qualified helicopter engineer with excellent communication and organisational skills and have many years of engineering experience in the service. My recent career assignment is assuring both military and civilian aircraft maintenance in aviation compliance with MAA & CAA regulatory activity, working alongside industry partners namely Leonardo, Lockheed Martin, Thales and BAE.

I started out in Additive Manufacturing late 2019 just prior to CD19, co-founding the 3D Innovation Hub at RNAS Culdrose. Shortly after working through the initial pandemic in Cornwall, the new Innovation Hub; along with support from HM Forces and local charities and networking with a group of amateur civilian 3D print enthusiast, we were able to collaborate and produce over 35,000 free face shields for the Cornwall and Devon healthcare services and local communities. This initiative helped to setup an AdM Innovation culture at RNAS Culdrose and we now train a wide range of newly qualified naval personal across all branch cadres and civil service workforce in 3D printing and scanning technologies.

With a background in helicopter engineering training and as a STEM ambassador I have elected to put my AdM knowledge, engineering skills and training environment insight to good use and support the future growth of today, becoming an advocate for CreateEducation. With an approved applied knowledge of AdM practical use in FAA aviation setting applied in the military environment I would like to assist and help to bring this innovative technology into the school education setting.

A serving sailor with 3 decades of seniority my time working in the Royal Navy is drawing to a close and moving forward from a 31yr life-long ‘hobby’ (which I have loved), it is time to face new challenges.

I live near the Lizard, Cornwall and married to Nicole for 24 yrs. I have 3 children, Alex (23), Liam (20) and Paige (16). When I do get spare time my passions are DIY, motorcycling and a relaxing game of golf…..if it goes right!
