InnovatiVET is an EU-funded research project on the future of vocational training, running at STEAMhouse on 13th November from 12:00-16:00.
InnovatiVET is about innovation in the vocational education and training sector. It was conducted by research partners in five countries (UK, Italy, Slovenia, Finland and Denmark) and provides tools, methodologies and evidence-gathering results for the further professionalisation and development of VET sector educators, trainers and staff.
It’s objective is to address the gap in innovation in the vocational teaching sector, and identify tools to promote learners’ employability.
A significant part of the report looks at the value that maker spaces, fablabs, coworking spaces and hackspaces make towards employability and skills training. They are becoming especially important for supporting small business and self-employed people. They are also hotbeds of innovation, thanks to the potential for flexible collaboration, and diversity among their membership.
This event will introduce the key findings of the work packages, before moving on to a facilitated discussion of how these spaces can position themselves well for the future, without compromising their values and strengths.
By gathering the key voices in the sector, from across the country, both new and experienced, to take part in this discussion. The intention is that this will lead to some useful, actionable outcomes that can be shared and implemented by participants.
