The First UK Academic Makerspace Forum at The University of Sheffield
UNIMAKER is a chance to gather people from across the UK and beyond who run makerspaces, are interested in makerspaces, or are just starting out on their makerspace journey. Come and be a part of this growing community; see The iForge, the UK’s first student-led makerspace; share what you are doing; and learn from global leaders in the makerspace movement!
Sheffield’s central location means that it is within easy reach of many parts of the UK. The city is well served by national road and rail networks and has excellent local transport. The University campus is on the western edge of the city centre and is easy to get to by car, bus and tram.
The Diamond – at £86 million the University of Sheffield’s largest ever investment in teaching and learning – opened its doors to students and staff on September 28th 2015.
Construction began on site in 2013 and the project was delivered on time and to budget.
The stunning building has already created a fantastic place for modern interdisciplinary teaching, generating interest from all over the world. It won the Design through Innovation award in the 2016 Yorkshire and Humber Region Royal Institute of Chartered Surveyors (RICS) awards, and was also shortlisted for the Yorkshire awards from the Royal Institute of British Architects (RIBA).
