In this mini-project, students will design then 3D print their own Christmas tree decorations to give as a gift.

This mini project is suitable for students in KS2 and KS3 and uses the free Tinkercad 3D modelling software. Other 3D modelling software could also be used for this project, however, the resources that accompany this project are for Tinkercad.

Younger students in Lower KS2 should use the Tinkercad “Scribble Tool” to draw their designs, whilst students in Upper KS2 and KS3 should use the various standard Tinkercad Shapes to develop their designs, although the scribble tool could also be used alongside the shapes to create freehand design elements.

The following resources are available to download to support delivery of this project:

In The Classroom

This is a great activity for late in the autumn term as Christmas approaches, these can be used for decorating the school or class Christmas tree or for displays in school and then students can take their tree decorations home at the end of term. Students could also turn this activity into a business enterprise project by 3D printing batches of their decorations, tying ribbon loops to them and selling them at the school Christmas fair.
